In Irish mythology cursing stones were a component of a "bullaun," which is thought to be bowl-shaped. It was a stone with this shape etched into the it and in the centre contained water. The bullaun possessed the ability to curse someone, but only if the punishment was fair; otherwise, the ritual's performer would be subject to the curse.
